UVA was on the wrong end of an ass kicking this past weekend. Just when I thought we were in it with Georgia Tech the Jackets come out in the second half, march down the field over 11 minutes, score and more or less demoralize the morale of the Cavaliers. Unfortunately there was an absurd unsportsmanlike conduct call on 3rd down against us that prevented us from getting the ball back and possibly cutting the lead to three and staying alive in the game. However, even though we are perfect in side the red-zone this year too many of those opportunities have resulted in field goals and not TDers. If you're inside the 5 it's imperative that you get that 6. Like I've mentioned the rest of the season is an absolute grind. We must protect home field and continue playing well on the road if we want any shot at a bowl game. We need to grab three more wins some how. In order to this people need to step up as leaders and get this team back on track. It's going to take a strong mental approach and tough play to get where we want to be. That starts with Puke at home this weekend. We MUST avenge the ass kicking we took down there last year. Also, we need to get back at their team for dancing in front of our sideline after their victory last year. Puke sucks.
Ohio State got back on track this weekend. The defense again looked dominant and Pryor played better.
The Indians hired Manny Acta as manager. This should be interesting.
The NBA starts up this week and I'm pretty excited about that. I'm really looking forward to seeing what LeBron, Shaq, and company have in store for us this year. This has to be the year that the Cavs smack the league and raise that trophy up in June.

Well as we are about to embark on another weekend here at Xavier we need to take note of a few things. First, this marks family weekend here at X, which also means Muskie Madness, free booze and food from the parents, and yet another wonderful weekend of college football. Most importantly however is the announcement that Johnny Mazza has made the basketball team here at X. I could not be happier for him and I hope X can tony smack a lit this year so J Mazz can get some face time.
Now on to college football. Last weekend was a great week for college football that would have been even better had the Irish been able to beat SC and had Razorbacks been able to knock off Timmy down in the Swamp. Now lets look to the week ahead.
Minnesota @ OSU. While I understand that TP has been having some trouble of late I feel as though Minnesota is just that bad that they wont be able to stick with the buckeyes. It pains me to even pick them to cover this weekend, but this has all the makings of a classic bounce back game for the luckeyes. OSU -16.5
Arkansas @ Ole Miss. While I am an admitted bandwagon Rebels fan, they might be the most overrated team in the country this year. However Houston Nutt is going to be coaching against his former team that has seemed to move on quite nicely without him after destroying Auburn a couple weeks ago and a near upset bid at Florida last week. I think Jevan Snead just sucks too much for them to cover this weekend as he may be the most overrated QB in the country, much like his team. Arkansas +6.5
Maryland @ Duke. No no folks, it's not basketball season, but Duke is just tough at home, and to be quite honest the Terps are garbage. I like Cutcliffe for Duke considering he groomed Peyton Manning into one of the best QB'S ever, and I playing at Duke isnt easy, just ask Virginia Tech.

Florida @ Mississippi State. Florida is out to prove a lot after a big scare last week at home. The Gators have not won at MSU in their last 4 tries, but that streak is about to come to a screeching hault in a big way. I think Timmy is finally healthy from the concussion and he will really do it to the bulldogs of MSU this weekend. Florida -23.
BC @ ND. Well after last weeks emotional roller coaster for the Irish against SC there has been a lot of talk about a let down. I just dont see it coming. BC has a very solid running game and a pretty good secondary, however Jimmy and the boys will be just fine. In the locker room after the loss to SC Jimmy is rumored to have proclaimed that this team will never lose again, and you know what? I am drinking that kool-aid. Coach Weis has a team that has more heart in it than I have been watching ND football, and I fully expect the team to be more than ready to Danza Smack the BC. ND-7.5.

Do What We Do: A Xavier Basketball Preview
Lace em up folks. Basketball season is here whether you're ready or not. I know it seems like just yesterday when we all watched The Tarheels run through the tournament and grab the National Title. When that final buzzer sounded, Sean Miller was still at Xavier, Arizona had no coach, and we were all wondering how we let a third Elite 8 in five years slip away. Well, a lot has changed. Sean is at 'Zona where he'll have them back on the map in no time, Chris Mack is heading the charge at Xavier, and we still all hate Dayton. All is well.
Let's begin with Chris Mack. Who is this guy? Well, I'll tell you who he is. He was the only option in my opinion that should've been looked at to coach at Xavier and I'm glad he's the guy Xavier chose. Chris Mack was born and raised in Cincinnati. He hooped at St. Xavier then went on to Evansville where he spent two seasons. He came back home and finished his career at Xavier. Legend has it he could soar in his day and trust me when I say that he still can hoop. He still can throw down after having two major knee surgeries. He spent some time coaching girls high school basketball before reuniting with Skip Prosser at X and following him to Wake Forest. He came back home to be Sean's number one guy on the bench and was a very influential factor in Xavier's success under Coach Miller. It finally was Coach Mack's time and nothing better than for him to coach the at the school he played and and coach in front of the hometown fans. He's learned under some of the best in college basketball. The late great Skip Prosser will always be remembered as one of the best coaches in college basketball and Sean Miller is arguably one of if not the best young coach's in basketball right now. Arizona cannot be any happier than to have a guy like Miller running the show there. Watch out Pac-10, you're in for some trouble. But enough about that, we're here to talk Musketeer hoops. Out of Chris Mack you're going to see a similar style of play. It's going to be run and gun for the most part with a strong emphasis on defense. The offense is going to flourish off the success of the defense. You're going to see a very organized team that puts up points and shuts opponents down. The goals remain the same: compete for a conference championship and play in the post season - the NCAA Tournament - and advance. It's as simple as that. Xavier strives for success because they've had success. We're just going to continue to do what we do.
Let's take a look at the schedule. Once again we have gone out and scheduled tough opponents. The sole purpose of this is to prepare the team for conference play. A tough non-conference schedule allows teams to grow and compete with the best of the best and get better everyday. Unlike Dayton who likes to schedule panzy ass teams and fool themselves into thinking they are good when they really are not. So good job Dayton. Keep up the tough scheduling, we'll see you in January. Anyways, the results can be seen up on banners in the Cintas Center. Tough non-conference play has attributed to Xavier's success not only because it prepares the team to battle every night in the A-10 and prepares them for the NCAA Tournament. Immediately you look at the schedule and you see Marquette, Michigan, Creighton, Butler, Cincinnati, LSU, Wake Forest, Florida, Kansas State, and Kent State. You look at those teams and you see NCAA Tournaments, you see National Titles, you see ballers, you see perenial success. What you also see is once again a chance for Xavier to go out and prove to the country why they are so successful in March year in and year out. The conference play is no walk in the park either. Xavier has to show up every night to play because they go into every game with a target on their back. Xavier gets everyone's best game because every team wants a little piece of what Xavier has achieved and that's W's and Rings. As much as it pains me to say this, and I'm in legitimate pain right now, Dayton will challenge Xavier this year with the conference championship. However, let's be honest and face the facts. Xavier's non-conference play will prove to be pivotal when it comes to conference play. It will be Xavier and Dayton at the top with the rest of the A-10 being extremely competitive. Nothing is harder than going to Massachusetts in February and grinding out a win but Xavier will be up for the task this year.
Looking at personnel you see huge gaps left to fill. First of all Xavier loses almost all of it's offense in BJ Raymond, CJ Anderson, and the early departure of Derrick Brown. But just like Xavier does every year, they reload and hard work in the off season prepares young guys to step up and take leadership roles and just keep it rolling in Cincinnati. If you don't know Jordan Crawford by now well let me introduce you to the guy who "dunked" on LeBron. Not taking anything away from Jordan but it wasn't what everyone built it up to be. Please everyone act like you've seen a dunk before. Anyways, Jordan Crawford transferred in last year from Indiana. He was orginally recruited by Xavier but chose IU. Had it not been for Eric Gordon he could've challenged for freshman of the year in the Big 10. He's very very very good and when he's on he is tough to stop. The A-10 is going to struggle to guard this hoss. Kenny Frease is a big man down low. He is going to use his size to body you and score inside the paint. He's physical and built like an ox. He'll wear you down as the game drags on. Terrell Holloway had the tough task of filling the shoes Drew Lavender left last year. Tutu as he's aptly known as handles the rock and has used last season's struggles to help himself get better in the off season. Him and Cheekz will be a great duo in the backcourt. Joe Hughes is a walk on who through his hard work earned a scholly this year. He's going to bring a toughness both mentally and defensively to the court. What up Joe?! I see you. Dante Jackson is going to be the voice and heart of this team. He's passionate and plays hard. He's an extremely hard worker. I think this year you're finally going to see what he's made out of. He's been forced to play out of position his first two years with a lack of depth at the point position. But this year you're going to see him at the two guard spot and hurt teams with his ability to penetrate and assassinate others from outside with his range. Jason Love. We've all been waiting to see what this guy can do. I'll tell you what that is. He's a flashy point guard who can penetrate, kick, and dish the rock. He's quick. He can jump. He can flat out jump out of the gym and arguably one of the most athletic dudes I've ever seen. He's going to clean up the glass. He's going to dunk the ball. He's going to block shots. He's going to posterize cats. He's going to hustle. He's going to play hard. Don't worry, those lobs Drew used to give to Derrick will be back this year except it will be Tutu or Cheekz to Jamel. Brad Redford. Can flat out shoot the ball. This may help you remember how lethal this guy is. It's no secret now. The conference and the nation will be ready for him. But he has no range so I really don't know how teams plan on guarding him. Be ready to see him light it up and burn the silk this year. Jeff Robinson is a freshman who Xavier got late after he didn't get into Purdue. He has tremendous upside and will help provide depth at the forward position. Andrew Taylor is also going to help provide depth at the forward position and his shooting will be needed as well. Brian Welsh rounds out the Xavier line up. He will provide great minutes at the 2 and 3 position, defend well, shoot well, and distribute the rock.

They may not win them all but you know what you're getting every game. How 'bout them Hoos?! The Cavaliers are really doing the things right now. We've rattled off three in a row, the latest being a grind it out victory in College Park, Maryland. Conditions were horrendous. Cold and rain. The field was crap. We lost one of our best defensive players in Matt Conrath due to dirty play and Jameel went down as well. But, after some big time defensive stops and some solid running we got it done. Went into that piece of crap stadium and won 20-9. We now sit at 3-3 and 2-0 in ACC play. We have Georgia Tech at home this weekend in a game that has sole first place on the line in the division. Now, we went down to the North AVenue Trade School last year and got the W. We shut down that garbage triple option. This week we're going to have to do the same thing. Tech barley throws the ball. They only completed one pass in a win against Virginia Tech for 11 yards. They ran the ball 60 times. So that means a huge effort is in store from the front seven to stop that running attack from Josh Nesbitt and Jonathan Dwyer. Both are superior athletes. However, here at UVA we have our eyes set on the prize and that's a win each week and getting better everyday. Toe meets leather at noon in Scott Stadium.

Their apparel sucks (Under Armour). I was so happy we beat them in the fashion we did. Eat that Terrapins. No one fears a turtle. You don't protect your house. Most of all your coach is FAT. Congratulations for grabbing my attention and as a result putting you into the same category as Dayton. Enjoy your stay and enjoy the hate.
How long have I been saying it? Terrelle Pryor is not good right now. I can only hope that he can progress and become the quarterback that everyone touted him to be. He is tremendously athletic. I'm not sure what it's going to take for him to get better but something has got to give. Columbus can be a harsh town especially on that little football program along the banks of the Olentangy. Terrelle, I still got your back, but please, start trying to get better everyday and start being a man. As far as the season go, if Ohio State wins out they should still win the Big Ten and make the Rose Bowl.
Will someone let me know when the Browns start playing football or fire Mangini? Just don't trade Cribbs.

College basketball started on Friday night and I couldn't be more excited. I cannot wait for Big Monday's, the holiday tournaments, conference play, and the NCAA Tournament. Expect a full preview of college basketball within the next two weeks. I also plan on dropping a Xavier preview and a Gordon College preview.

I'm not sure what it's going to take for him to get better but something has got to give. Columbus can be a harsh town especially on that little football program along the banks of the Olentangy. Terrelle, I still got your back, but please, start trying to get better everyday and start being a man. As far as the season go, if Ohio State wins out they should still win the Big Ten and make the Rose Bowl.
Will someone let me know when the Browns start playing football or fire Mangini? Just don't trade Cribbs.

College basketball started on Friday night and I couldn't be more excited. I cannot wait for Big Monday's, the holiday tournaments, conference play, and the NCAA Tournament. Expect a full preview of college basketball within the next two weeks. I also plan on dropping a Xavier preview and a Gordon College preview.
Upset alert of the week: Hawaii over Boise State in Hawaii...most likely wishful thinking.

Here We Go
I would like to begin my comeback post with a raise of the glass to Gaskill. He has single handedly given us weekly updates, so now I feel as though he should get a little help.
Looking ahead. Xavier University is really going to lay pipe to the A-10 again and the fact that dayton thinks that they have a shot at the crown gets a rise out of me every day. I will delve more into the Muskies later in the semester, but its football season and baseball playoffs so we will tackle whats ahead of us.
Bombers-Halos. This matchup is being talked about as one of the best championship series in years, and while I hope that is the case, i simply do not believe to be true. The games may be good, but that will just be a testament to how good Scioscia is as a manager. This year just feels like a Yankee year, and I fully expect them to do the bad things to the Angels. Yanks in 5
Dodgers-Phillies. This is the series tha has the potential to go the full 7. Torre has a nice mixture of young and old talent out there in LA LA land, but his achilles heel may be his pitching. Cliff Lee is just nasty and Hamels can turn it on at any moment to give them one of the best 1-2 punches in all of baseball. What this is going to come down to is the pen. Lidge has been too erratic this year and I simply cant see myself giving the Phils this series with so much question in the pen. Dodgers in 7.
College Football. This week is just loaded with college football and let me tell ya I could not be more excited. For the rest of the season I am going to try to post some picks on the weeks big games.
Tulsa-Boise State. I really hope Killa is right on this upset special and I hope it is not just a bunch of wishful thinking. I hope the broncos suck on a fatty against the hurricane because they are crap. Tulsa +9
Va Tech @ Ga Tech- This game is going to make things very interesting for the ACC and BCS if Ga Tech wins. This game should prove to be a battle to the finish and it will all come down to whether or not Va Tech can slow down the running game. I dont think they do and I see Ga Tech coming up big in a night game at home. Ga Tech +3.5
Cincinnati @ USF. I realy dont know why I am posting about Big East football because its stupid. the only person I care about in the Big East is Noel Devine. However I gotta pick someone so I'll take USF simply because I hate UC. USF +3.5
Oklahoma- Texas. This one should go to the Longhorns as they are the healthier and better overall team. This game upsets me a little bit because I would like college gameday to be in South Bend rather than dumb dallas. Oh well though, Colt is going to light it up and hit Shipley all day and I am not completely sold that Mr. Bradford is going to be able to handle the Texas D.

THE GAME
USC @ Notre Dame. I'll go ahaead and say it. I am a homer, but something just feels different about this year for the Irish than it has in any other year that they hav played the Trojans under Weis. I know that USC gets a couple of guys back this weekend that should prove to be key contributors for SC and that ND is going to really miss Michael Floyd. However, Jimmy Clausen just seems to go to work and pick people apart. He makes everyone around him better. His pocket presence has improved vastly and this will be a break-out game for true freshman Shaq Evans. He is a SoCal boy and former SC verbal commit. There are an abundance of SoCal boys on the ND roster and you better believe that they have had this game circled on the calendar since the schedule came out. ND +10.
Thats all I have for the games. In other news this weekend up in south stupid has potential to be epic. Not only is this game monumental, but the cast of characters that will be up there is going to be ridiculous. I will post back on that next week, but for now I am out.

UVA absolutely exploded this weekend. I'm talking like more than the average "pound the rock explosion." More along the lines of Hiroshima explosion. We smacked IU so bad it wasn't even funny. 47-7 in Scott Stadium. It wasn't even that close. Despite a few special teams miscues we played flawless football on Saturday. Mikell Simpson scored 4 times and had he not gotten a stinger in 3rd quarter he might have gotten 5 scores. Jameel was in a rhythm hitting up multiple receivers. The overlying statement was that of the defense. UVA's D has been on point lately. I'm not saying it's Buckeye D good but we've been very solid and seem to be confusing teams with the coverages and blitzes. Looking at the schedule we might be able to actually become bowl eligible this year. We go to Maryland this week and that should be a win. Maryland is bad and just lost to Wake Forest this weekend. We then come home against Georgia Tech. This will be a tough game. However, last year we swallowed up their run game and spit it out. Jon Dwyer is a man hoss and could cause problems but if we can stop him and Nesbitt we can easily grab that W. We then have Duke at home the following week. Now, we lost to Puke last year, a complete utter embarassment. I felt like a violated child on the bus ride home after that smashing. I think we get them at home. Take note, Virginia Tech did struggle against Puke this year. I think we'll be ok. The first big time game is after Puke, we go to Miami the first weekend in November. We lost in OT to the U last year, a game we very well should've won had it not been for a garbage PI call late in the game. Going to the U will really be a test and we need another IU type effort to grab that W. We come home and get the Eagles of Boston College. BC is a funny team. I don't know if they're good or not. But I have to believe at home we can take care of business. (Take note these predictions are based on how the team has played the past 2 weeks, we very easily could revert back to William and Mary form if we let our heads get too big, just do what we do). Another test down the stretch is our trip to Death Valley against Klimpson. They have shown they're not very good this year but Death Valley is a tough place to go and win. We really need to be feeling it for that game. Finally, Virginia Tech at home to close out the season. If everything is going well this could be for the ACC title. Wow. Coach Groh has only beaten VA Tech once in his career. So maybe he's due for a win. The atmosphere could be rawkus for this game and there is going to be a lot of high level hitting going on. If all goes well we could possibly pull out a 7-5 season and be bowl eligible. Stay tuned for what could be a very exciting rest of the season.

The Twins got the Tigers in a thrilling one game playoff. However, they were quickly swept by the bats of New York. A-Rod has finally decided to show up in the post season. The Yanks are in such a groove right now it's not even funny they look really tough to beat. So I was right on the Yanks taking this one. The Angels got the Red Sox which wasn't surprising. I bet LAA wishes they would've tried to sign Big Tex because he may be one missing piece they need to beat the Yanks. Unfortunately, he's on the Yankees and that most likely will come back to bite them in the ass. Wow, the Cardinals got swept by the Dodgers. Manny's bat is heating up. But, it's cold in Colorado. The Rockies are battling to stay alive against he Phils. I still think the Phils win and get the Dodgers in the NLCS. To be continued.

Mad Bodies
UVA got of the snide this weekend with a big time win down in Chapel Hill. UVA came out on top in the South's oldest rivalry. This win was so huge in many reasons. First, it gives the team the confidence it needs to continue getting better everyday. It also puts us at 1-0 in ACC play. Who knows, maybe we get rolling here and have a heck of a season. The defense was swarming on Saturday. They gave TJ Yates trouble all day. If our D keeps up that kind of effort we could be a force to be reckoned with. The offense got going too and if it wasn't for a few ill advised penalties then we really could've been lacing UNC. The run game was hot and Jameel made some plays in the pocket while the receivers made some big time plays to help put away the Tar Heels. That's what you get for putting the Browns in bad situations Butch. That makes me 2-0 against Butch Davis. Now, I only want the opportunity to slap Mangini around but I'll get to that later.
Ohio State made a business trip to Bloomington and made sure it was all business. Even without a captain and a few players the Buckeyes still did what they always do to IU. No thanks. Points were even left on the field but the Bucks still laid it down. Pryor accounted for 4 TDs. Please keep up that type of work TP. Duron Carter (Cris Carter's son) got in the mix with his first collegiate TD. That's what I'm talking about. Brandon Saine had a career high in rush yards. The D still was nice and still looks like money.

The defense played really well and yet you spoiled it for everyone. Stop sucking Mangini. I'm tired of your bull shit. I will say I was jacked to see my main man Mohamed Massaquoi had a career day for a rookie. Something like 140 plus yards receiving just absolutely torching the Bengals D. Too bad Mangini had to spoil his coming out party. If the Browns don't draft a QB this year then please draft Eric Berry from Tennessee. That guy is legit. Mangini is not legit. The NFL is so soft. I'm sick and tired of these weak ass penalties. I'm referring to the personal foul called on Ray Lewis when Tom Brady cried because Ray got in his comfort zone. Football is not a game for panzys. People get hit. I have no problem with you protecting the QBs to an extent but there comes a time when you just gotta let dudes get hit. I mean what's next? Is the QB going to start having to wear a different color jersey saying they can't be hit at all?! It's not just the QBs but the NFL is so soft it won't even let some big time hits go down. I don't care if you get penalized but keep bringing the heat heavy hitters in the league. I'm cool with it.
When will the Tebow media sucking off stop? Everyday they have to give me an update about his concussion and everyday I don't care. Jameel suffered a mild concussion on Saturday? October is here and that means one thing...baseball playoffs. Baseball playoffs are awesome. I love the fall classic! The Twinkies and Tigers will have a one game playoff to decide who wins the central division. I like the Twins at home. Not only is the Dome hostile but they are hot and Detroit has more or less spoiled all their chances to win that division. I'm not going to analyze every series so I'll simply make my picks for the World Series. Actually, first let me say that the Rockies really got it done down the stretch. So I gotta give a shout out to my main Chuck Diesel Diebel out in CO...get it going like you did senior year. I loved everyday seeing you rep so hard for the Rockies. Unfortunately I gotta go against the Rocks to make the World Series. I think you're going to see the Cardinals and Yankees in the World Series. I want so bad to pick the Dodges but I'm not so sure they have what it takes to beat the Cardinals in the first round. The Yankees have been dominant all season long. I think they will run into the Angels for the American League Championship and that will go 7 games but I just have to go with the Yanks against my better judgement. In a perfect world I would like to see the Angels and Dodgers but I think that's not going to go down. In an even sweeter world I would love a Rockies and Bo Sox World Series. I really shouldn't go against last years champ the Phils but I just think the Cardinals are too dominant. Who knows, I'll probably be completely wrong the World Series will be the Phillies and Twinkies. Yankees in 6 though. Damn.
