Lights on, Nobody home

Let me start off with a little UVA update. Well it first went down on Saturday after jumping out early on the Chokies we stumbled to even finish the game. The Hokies decided they had seen enough after we methodically marched down the field and scored on our first possession. It then went down on Sunday with not only coach Groh getting the axe but the entire coaching staff including the four GA's got the axe and were asked to turn in their cars, phones, and be out of the offices by Tuesday and asked not to come back. So of course now the rumors will swirl as far as who the next coach will be. Early names floating about in the media outlets include: Chris Peterson from Boise State, Brian Kelly from UC, Mike London from Richmond, Al Golden from Temple, Tom Tuberville, and Charlie Strong from Florida. As far as I'm concerned, I'm excited for a fresh start with a new coach and staff. In my opinion since they completely cleaned house it's hard for me to see Mike London or Al Golden getting hired since they were here under Groh at one point in time. Cleaning house means cleaning house to me and that means a complete fresh start and not bringing in anyone who has any ties to Groh or the previous staff.

Ohio State didn't play so I don't really have anything to talk about other than The Villain is still balling and the Buckeyes are rolling over so so competition on the hardwood.

Speaking of the hardwood, Xavier went 1-2 down in Orlando. I did not expect this. Against Marquette, the only person to show up and play was Jason Love. He had a monstrous effort going for 21 points and 19 rebounds. The team looked solid against Creighton and pulled out a solid win. However, it was awful decision making that cost X the game against Baylor. Baylor was a game that was very winnable. All I know is that Coach Mack better get a hold of Jordan Crawford and his decision making because those selfish plays are not going to cut it down the road. I will say this, it took Drew Lavender until December to finally get back into true game form and I'm thinking maybe that's about how long it will take for JC to regain true game form. Mark Lyons needs to try and cut the circus street ball out of his game and start playing a little more fundamentally sound because behind the back no look passes to Brad Redford are not going to win ball games especially when you're trying to battle back from being down 11-0. All in all the selfish play needs to stop and Xavier needs to take note from the 2007-2008 team and start playing as a team instead of like a bunch of selfish cats just trying to get theirs. What's even more frustrating about Orlando is that Xavier could've won the whole thing. The Marquette game was winnable and if we make our free throws we're right there in position to win at the end.

Did anyone check out the end of the USC and UCLA game? USC was ready to call the game. They took a knee and then UCLA called a time out. Sure Neuheisel tried to say he was playing the game. He was trying to force a punt or maybe force a fumble. But my man...if you're trying to play the game you better be ready to be played right back because USC was playing the game too after that timeout. They said, ok, call a timeout, two can play this game. Barkley drops back, play action, pass deep and 48 yards later USC put six up on the scoreboard. As a result a raucous celebration ensued and a fight almost broke out between UCLA and USC players. I'm not a UCLA guy nor am I a USC guy. But, I'm going to side with Pete Carrol on this one. Look, if Neuheisel claims to be playing the game then why can't Pete play the game? What's funny about this is Pete was just on the other side of this situation when Standford went for two late in the game. Now, Pete didn't come out and publicly complain about Harbaugh trying to run up the score but according to sources the hand shake wasn't too pleasant as Pete and Harbaugh asked each other what their problems were? So here we are two weeks later and Pete is doing the exact same thing so it's kind of funny but not completely outrageous as UCLA got what they deserved. Why not just accept the loss and go to the locker room rather than calling a timeout with the game all but decided. Just accept it UCLA, USC is the best team in LA.

The question remains now, who takes over at Notre Dame? Whoever it is, how will they rectify another 6 loss season?
